Soul Cedar Fram has issued a recall for sweet peppers that may pose a botulism risk. Consumers who have purchased these peppers should not eat them as botulism can cause life-threatening illness and death.

On April 19, 2022, Soul Cedar Farm of Quilcene, Wa issued a recall for Zesty Sweet which were sold in glass jars at retail stores in Quilcene and Port Townsend, WA. The recall was initiated after officials from the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) discovered during routine testing that one batch of  the company’s Zesty Sweet Peppers hada pH level high enough to support formation of the Clostridium botulinum, the toxin that causes botulism.

Soul Cedar Farm and WSDA are working together to discover the source of the problem.

Symptoms of botulism include weakness, dizziness, double-vision, trouble breathing, speaking, or swallowing. Anyone who has been exposed to Clostridium botulinum and develops these symptoms should seek immediate medical care.
