A major onion recall has been issued in association with a multistate Salmonella outbreak. Thomson International Inc. of Bakersfield, California issued an onion recall after Salmonella Newport illnesses in the U.S. and Canada were linked to foods containing onions.
The recall includes red, yellow, white and sweet yellow onions shipped from May 1, 2020 to grocery stores, hotels, restaurants and foodservice companies in all 50 states, Washington D.C. and Canada. Products containing onions such as salads, wraps, kabobs and salsas also pose a risk. Consumers who cannot tell if onions they have purchased were produced by Thomson should not eat them, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is advising.
