Twenty people in Minnesota are part of a 35-state mystery Salmonella outbreak, according to the latest information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Some patients reported eating Mexican-style restaurant food containing onions, peppers, cilantro, and lime before they became ill. And the CDC found the outbreak strain in a restaurant condiment cup that initially contained cilantro, lime, and onions.  Because bacteria from one ingredient can cross-contaminate others, health officials are still working to identify the exact source of the outbreak.

In total, the mystery outbreak includes at least 419 people in 35 states who range in age from less than 1 year to 91 years old. Health officials have interviewed 214 people so far. Of those, 66 have been hospitalized. That 30 percent hospitalization rate is higher than the 20 percent average.

The number of cases reported from each state is: Alabama (1), Arkansas (8), California (6), Connecticut (4), Florida, (5), Georgia (2), Illinois (28), Indiana, (11), Kansas (9), Kentucky (9), Louisiana (4), Maryland (22), Massachusetts (10), Michigan (6), Minnesota, (20), Mississippi (2), Missouri (5), Nebraska (6), New Jersey (5), New Mexico (8), New York (3), North Carolina (7), North Dakota (2), Ohio (5), Oklahoma, (63), Oregon (1), Pennsylvania (4),  South Carolina (2), South Dakota (7), Tennessee (2), Texas (111), Utah (2), Virginia (38) and Wisconsin (10).
