Cyclospora

A Cyclospora outbreak has sickened nearly 80 people who ate at Cooper’s Hawk Winery and Restaurant in Jacksonville, FL. The people sickened ate at the restaurant between June 10th and June 24th. Many were attending a charity banquet held by the Exchange Club. A statement from the restaurant names fresh produce as a potential food source. Many of the people sickened reported eating a salad with their meals. Local news outlets report that the restaurant received prior health violations for improper food storage and cleanliness.

Cyclospora Outbreaks Linked to Fresh Produce

Fresh produce has been linked to past Cyclospora outbreaks in the U.S. It is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to wash Cyclospora off produce, especially when the produce has lots of crevices, such as lettuce.  Just last summer, hundreds of people fell ill in Cyclospora outbreaks linked to McDonald’s salads and Del Monte vegetable trays. Our lawyers are currently representing more than 200 clients in the Del Monte outbreak.
