A cut fruit Listeria recall includes Wegmans, Tops, Fresh Harvest and Lexington Co-Op. Consumers who have recently purchased cut fruit items from these stores should check recall information carefully. The recalled products should not be eaten as Listeria can cause serious illness and death. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriage and stillbirth.
Fruit Fresh Up Inc. of Depew, NY issued the cut fruit Listeria recall on March 20, 2022, after testing of environmental swabs from its packaging area tested positive for Listeria. The recalled cut fruit was sold in clear plastic containers with tamper-evident seals and had “best by ” dates between March 5, 2022, and March 23, 2022. The recalled vegetable and fruit trays with dip were sold in 7 oz clear plastic clamshell containers with “best by” dates ranging from March 15, 2022, to March 31, 2022.
The company said was not aware of any illnesses associated with the products at the time of the recall. But symptoms of a Listeria infection can take as long last 70 days to develop. These symptoms include severe headache, high fever, stiff neck, other muscle stiffness, nausea, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions.
