Shop-Rite and Giant Eagle stores brands are now part of the Cyclospora recall of bagged salad made by Fresh Express. In addition to ALDI, Hy-Vee, Jewel-Osco and Walmart store brands recalled last week, the recall now includes more varieties of Hy-Vee store brand bagged salads and distribution to 20 additional states and the District of Columbia. The recall of private label and branded Fresh Express bagged salad has been issued in connection with a multistate Cylospora outbreak that has sickened 206 people.
All of the branded and private label salads that are part of this recall contain iceberg lettuce, carrots and red cabbage and were produced at the Fresh Express facility in Streamwood, IL.
Symptoms of a Cyclospora infection include explosive diarrhea that is sometimes watery, muscle aches, abdominal cramps, vomiting, fever and other flu-like symptoms.
The outbreak includes 206 people, ranging in age from 16 to 92, who got sick in May and June of this year. The total number of illnesses reported by state is: Illinois (57), Iowa (74), Kansas (1), Minnesota (25), Missouri (10) Nebraska (20), North Dakota (6), and Wisconsin (13).
