A Salmonella outbreak at Carniceria Guanajuato taqueria now includes at least 30 people. Ten people have been hospitalized.
Carniceria Guanajuato Salmonella Outbreak
The restaurant, located at 3140 N California, was inspected on September 8 and September 14 and received a “pass with conditions” each time. Some of the violations included:
- Coolers with missing thermometers
- Raw beef and eggs stored above ready-to-eat food such as sliced lettuce
- Cold foods stored above 41˚F, sliced tomatoes with an internal temperature of 48˚F
- Mineral deposits and soil buildup in the ice machine
Health officials have not yet determined the food source of the outbreak and are warning customers who have purchased any prepared food from the taqueria or the prepared food section of the grocery store since August 29, 2023, not to eat it.

Symptoms of a Salmonella infection include fever, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea that can be bloody. These symptoms usually develop within six to 72 hours of exposure.
