WiseTrade Corporation of Irvine, CA has issued a Listeria recall for enoki mushrooms imported from Korea. This recall is the latest in a string of recalls associated with enoki mushrooms. Consumers who have purchased these mushrooms should not eat them as Listeria can cause serious illness and death. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriage and stillbirth.
The recalled mushrooms, labeled Global Fresh Marketing Mushrooms, were sold in 200g/7.05oz clear plastic packages. Wisetrade Corporation’s name and address appear on the packaging. The UPC code, 809728-95012, appears on the back of the package.
At the time of the recall, the company said it was unaware of any illnesses associated with the mushrooms. Distribution of this product has been suspended while the FDA investigates the source of the problem.
Symptoms of a Listeria infection, called listeriosis, can take as long as 70 days to develop. These symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiff neck, other muscle stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women with Listeria infections can suffer miscarriages and stillbirths even if they only suffer mild symptoms.
