Wild Harvest, Dole Romaine E. coli Recall – Organic Lettuce from Salinas

Dole Fresh Vegetables Inc. has issued a recall for Dole and Wild Harvest brand organic hearts of romaine lettuce for potential E. coli contamination. The romaine was harvested in Salinas, CA four weeks ago and should no longer be on store shelves.

The Dole romaine E. coli recall includes the following products:

  • Dole™ Organic Romaine Hearts 3pk, with UPC 0-71430-90061-1, and  Harvested-On dates of 10-23-20 and 10-26-20
  • Wild Harvest Organic Romaine Hearts, 12 oz, with UPC 7-11535-50201-2, and Harvested-On dates of 10-23-20 and 10-26-20

The products were distributed in AZ, HI, IA, IL, IN, KS, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND and VA. The names of the stores that sold the product were not disclosed.

The problem was discovered during routine product testing conducted by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. The agency found a non-O157 strain of Shiga-toxin producing E. coli in a bag of Dole™ Organic Romaine Hearts.

Symptoms of an E. coli infection include abdominal cramps and diarrhea that can be bloody. These symptoms usually develop one to five days after exposure.
