Brown, cage-free eggs are the source of a Salmonella outbreak that has sickened dozens of people, and some illnesses are tied to restaurant food. The outbreak includes 95 illnesses in 14 states, 18 people have been hospitalized.
California health officials discovered the link while investigating a Salmonella outbreak at Chubby Cattle restaurant in Los Angeles. That investigation includes Chubby Cattle locations in Little Tokyo and Rowland Heights. Food from other restaurants is assocaited with the multistate outbreak as investigators discovered illness clusters from at least four restaurants, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
The people sickened in this outbreak developed Salmonella symptoms on dates ranging from January 7, 2025, to July 26, 2025. Eighteen of the 80 outbreak patients interviewed by health officials so far were so sick they needed to be hospitalized.
