Pritzker Hageman’s Food Poisoning Law Firm Salmonella lawyers are investigating a new outbreak of Salmonella Uganda that has sickened at least 71 people so far in 8 states. This outbreak has also led to at least 27 hospitalizations. A much higher number than usual, which may indicate extremely high levels of bacteria present on the affected papayas.
The number of cases per state so far are:
- Connecticut (14)
- Florida (1)
- Massachusetts (5)
- New Jersey (12)
- New York (24)
- Pennsylvania (4)
- Rhode Island (1)
- Texas (1)
The papayas were sold at retail in all the affected states except Texas and Florida.
UPDATE July 5th, 2019: The CDC has identified the affected brand as Cavi brand whole, fresh papayas. Consumers should discard any Cavi bran papaya they may still have at home and sanitize any surfaces where they were stored or that may have come in contact with them. A recall has not yet been initiated.
If you think you may have become sick from eating contaminated papayas, it is important that you get a stool sample done right away from your doctor, a local hospital or your health department.
If you were made sick in this outbreak, we want to represent you.
