An ongoing E. coli  outbreak has been linked to ADM Milling wheat in Baker’s Corner flour sold at ALDI stores. Now, another flour made with the contaminated wheat is being recalled. King Arthur issued a recall for specific lots of 5-pound bags of unbleached all-purpose flour.

The recalled King Arthur products have not been associated with illnesses. They have the following “best by” dates and lot codes:

  • BEST USED BY 12/07/19   LOT:   L18A07C
  • BEST USED BY 12/08/19   LOTS: L18A08A, L18A08B
  • BEST USED BY 12/14/19   LOTS: L18A14A, L18A14B, L18A14C

Scoop of flour from a bagE. coli Flour Outbreak

The  E. coli flour outbreak includes 17 illnesses in eight states. Three people have been hospitalized. Cases have been reported from  California, Connecticut, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, New York and Ohio.

On May 23, 2019, ADM Milling Co and ALDI recalled 5-pound bags of Baker’s Corner flour after health officials linked the product to the outbreak to the outbreak using genetic testing. The people sickened in this outbreak, who range in age from 7 years to 86 years old,  reported onset-of-illness dates ranging from December 11, 2018, to April 18, 2019. Some of them told health officials that they recalled eating or tasting raw batter or dough before they became ill. Two of them said that the dough was made with flour or baking mix from ALDI.

This is not the first time a food poisoning outbreak has been linked to flour. In 2016, flour used at Pizza Ranch restaurants was linked to a E. coli outbreak. Pritzker Hageman food poisoning lawyers filed the first lawsuit against Pizza Ranch that year. The suit was filed on behalf of a 7-year-old girl from Kansas who was sickened in that outbreak.
