Listeria Ice Cream Recall at Target, Walmart, Kroger, Publix…

Totally Cool Ice Cream Listeria Recall

Ice cream pints, cones, sandwiches, and cakes sold nationwide at stores including Target, Walmart, Kroger, Publix, Wegman’s, Hannaford, Dave’s Fresh Marketplace, and Giant have been recalled for Listeria.

Totally Cool Inc. of Owings Mills, MD issued the recall for ice cream, sorbet, and gelato products sold nationwide under the brand names AMA Fruits, Abilyn’s, ChipWich, Cumberland Farms, Dolcezza, Friendly’s, the Frozen Farmer, Hershey’s, Jeni’s, La Salle, Marco, Tahraka, and Yelloh on June 24.

Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them as Listeria can cause severe illness and death. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriage and stillbirth.

Listeria Symptoms

Symptoms of a Listeria infection, called listeriosis,  include:

  • High fever
  • Stiff neck
  • Muscle soreness
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Confusion
  • Loss of balance
  • Convulsions

Usually, listeriosis symptoms develop within 24 hours of exposure but can sometimes take as long as 70 days to appear. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, and premature delivery of an infected newborn even if the expectant mother experiences only mild flu-like symptoms.
