Farm Fresh Produce of Vernon, CA has issued a recall for enoki mushrooms sold nationwide that may be contaminated with Listeria. This is the latest in a string of enoki mushroom Listeria recalls. Consumers who have purchased recalled enoki mushrooms should not eat them as Listeria can cause serious illness and death. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriage and stillbirth.
The 14.11-oz packages labeled “TWA AGRICULTURE MIXED MUSHROOMS” and the UPC 6957937481850 were distributed nationwide. Production of this product has been suspended while FDA investigates the source of the problem.
Symptoms of a Listeria infection, called listeriosis, include severe headache, high fever stiff neck, other muscle stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Pregnant women who develop listeriosis can suffer miscarriage or stillbirth even if they only experience mild symptoms.
Listeria symptoms can take as long as 70 days to develop. At the time of the recall, the company said it was unaware of any illnesses reported in association with these mushrooms.
