Symptoms of an E. coli Infection

Symptoms of an E. coli infection include abdominal cramps and diarrhea that may be bloody. These symptoms usually develop within three days of exposure and last about a week. E. coli symptoms should not be treated with antibiotics or over-the-counter medications as they can increase the risk of a complication associated with some E. coli infections called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a form of kidney failure.
