An E. coli outbreak has triggered a recall for organic walnuts sold in bulk at Whole Foods, New Seasons Market, and other natural food stores and co-ops. Consumers who have recently purchased bulk walnuts should check recall information carefully.

On April 26, 2024, Gibson Farms Inc. of Hollister, CA issued an E. coli recall for organic walnut halves and pieces sold at New Seasons, Whole Foods, and other natural food stores and co-ops. The recall has been issued in connection with an E. coli O157:H7 outbreak that has caused at least 12 illnesses in two states.

The recalled walnuts were sold in bulk at retail stores in the following states:

Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

  • They were packed in 25-lb boxes
  • Lot code 3325-043 & 3341-501
  • Expiration dates 5/21/25 & 6/7/25
