At least five people have been hospitalized in a Salmonella outbreak linked to Aladdin Mediterranean Café in the Clairemont area of San Diego, according to the county health department. Fourteen customers who dined at the restaurant in April, located at 5420 Clairemont Mesa Boulevard in San Diego, developed Salmonella infections.

Investigators are still working to pinpoint the food source that sickened the patients, who range in age from 18 to 79 years old.

Symptoms of a Salmonella Infection

The people sickened in this outbreak said they first became ill on April 25 and April 26. Symptoms of a Salmonella infection usually develop six to 72 hours after eating contaminated food. They include:

  • Fever
  • Abdominal pain
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea that is sometimes bloody

Sometimes the infection can get into the bloodstream, producing a more severe illness that requires hospitalization.
