Pero Family Farms has issued a recall for microwavable trays of butternut squash cubes and spirals sold at Publix for possible Listeria contamination. Customers who purchased these products should not eat them as Listeria can cause serious illness and death.
Symptoms of a Listeria infection, called listeriosis, usually develop within two weeks of exposure but sometimes can take as long as 70 days before they appear. They include a headache that is usually severe, a fever that is usually high, a stiff neck, muscle aches, loss of balance, confusion, and convulsions. Sometimes these symptoms are preceded by digestive issues including upset stomach, cramps and diarrhea. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriage and stillbirth.
