The case-patients purchased fresh, conventional blackberries at Fresh Thyme Market stores in Indiana, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. The most recent illness was reported on November 5.

Outbreak investigators have determined that the contaminated blackberries came from a distribution center that ships fresh berries to Fresh Thyme Farmers Market stores in 11 states: IA, IL, IN, KY, MI, MO, MN, NE, OH, PA, and WI. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is recommending that Fresh Thyme customers not eat fresh conventional blackberries they purchased between September 9 and  September 30.

Hepatitis A is a virus that causes contagious liver infection. Symptoms include nausea, fatigue, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dark urine, and yellowing of the skin. Fresh Thyme customers who ate blackberries and developed these symptoms should see a doctor right away.
