H&C Food Inc. of Brooklyn has issued a recall for enoki mushrooms imported from Korea for potential risk of Listeria contamination. This is the third brand of imported enoki mushrooms to be recalled in connection with an ongoing Listeria outbreak that has sickened 36 people killing four of them.
Genetic tests performed on samples of the product performed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) were positive for the same strain of Listeria cultured from case-patients sickened. The recalled product was imported from Green Co. in Korea. It was sold in 7.05 OZ (200G) clear plastic packages withUPC#831211204181 and “H&C Food Inc.” on the label. They were sold at Great Wall Supermarkets in NY, MD and VA between February 15th, 2020 and March 5th, 2020. Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them as Listeria can cause serious illness and death. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriage and stillbirth.
Other brands of enoki mushrooms that have been recalled in connection with this outbreak are Guan’s and Sun Hong Foods.
