The Aladdin Mediterranean Cafe Salmonella outbreak now includes 37 illnesses and nine hospitalizations, according to the latest update from county health officials.
The customers developed Salmonella infections after dining at the restaurant, located at 5420 Clairemont Mesa Boulevard in San Diego. Investigators are still working to pinpoint the food source that sickened the patients, who range in age from 1 to 90 years old.
Symptoms of a Salmonella Infection
The people sickened in this outbreak ate at the restaurant between April 25 and May 1. Symptoms of a Salmonella infection usually develop six to 72 hours after eating contaminated food. They include:
- Fever
- Abdominal pain
- Vomiting
- Nausea
- Diarrhea that is sometimes bloody
Sometimes the infection can get into the bloodstream, producing a more severe illness that requires hospitalization.
