Deadly Minnesota Cantaloupe Salmonella Outbreak [Update]
Updated November 28 with Kwik Trip recall A Minnesota cantaloupe Salmonella outbreak includes 13 people, two of whom have died. The illnesses are part of a 32-state outbreak linked to Malichita brand cantaloupe.
Recalled whole and cut melon was sold under the names:
- Malichita
- Rudy
- ALDI
- Kwik Trip
- Freshness Guaranteed
- Race Trac
- Vinyard
- Fresh
The recalled melon was sold at grocery and convenience stores nationwide including Kwik Trip, Walmart, ALDI, Race Trac, and more.

Illnesses and Fatalities Reported
Other states reporting illnesses are: Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.
As of November 24, 99 people from 32 states have developed Salmonella infections after eating contaminated cantaloupe, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The patients range in age from 1 to 100 years old. Forty-five of them have been hospitalized and two patients from Minnesota have died.
