Carrot E. coli Outbreak Sickens 5 in Minnesota
Five people in Minnesota are part of a multistate E. coli outbreak linked to organic whole and baby carrots that includes dozens of illnesses and one fatality.
At least 39 people in 18 states are sick. Fifteen people, including one in Minnesota, have been hospitalized. One person in California has died.
The five people in Minnesota who are part of the multistate E. coli O121:H19 outbreak first became ill on dates between September 21 and October 6, days after eating organic carrots. They range in age from 15 to 44 years old.
Grimmway Farms of Bakersfield, CA processed the carrots identified as the source of this outbreak which were sold under a variety of brand names.
Health officials say the carrots are no longer on store shelves but are concerned that consumers may still have them at home, so a recall has been issued.
What Stores Sold the Recalled Carrots?
Nationwide, the recalled carrots were sold under the following brand names: 365, Bunny Luv, Cal-Organic, Compliments, Full Circle, Good & Gather, GreenWise, Grimmway Farms, Marketside, Nature’s Promise, O-Organic, President’s Choice, Raley’s, Simple Truth, Sprouts, Trader Joe’s, Wegmans, and Wholesome Pantry.
The Minnesota patients said they bought carrots from Costco, Target, and Hy-Vee under the brand names Good and Gather, Bunny Luv, and Cal-Organic.
