Norovirus Warning for Raw Oysters from Dai One Food
After illnesses were reported in Minnesota and Hawaii, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning restaurants and retailers in Minnesota, Hawaii, and Georgia that frozen oysters on the half shell from Dai One Food Co. in Korea are contaminated with norovirus and should not be sold.
Dai One Food Co. shipped the oysters, harvested between 2/10/2022 and 2/24/2022 and on 4/13/2022 and 4/14/2022, frozen in block form.
Symptoms of Norovirus
Norovirus is highly contagious. Symptoms of an infection include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and low-grade fever.
Five people who ate raw oyster shooters at a restaurant in Hawaii on May 10 developed norovirus. Those oysters were from a shipment by Dai One Food harvested on 4/13/2022 and 4/14/2022 from Designated Area No. II. Tests on samples collected from that date were positive for norovirus. Oysters harvested on that date were also distributed to Georgia.
In Minnesota, five people who ate raw oysters at a restaurant on June 3 became ill. Those oysters were from a Dai One Food shipment harvested between 2/10/2022 and 2/24/2022 in Designated Area No. II.
